CMM RETROFITS
SHOULD YOU EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR CURRENT CMM, OR SHOULD A NEW CMM PURCHASE BE CONSIDERED?
Over the past 25 years, LK Metrology has successfully retrofitted thousands of CMMs , from over 50 different CMM manufacturers, including: Boice, Brown & Sharpe, C.E. Johansson, DEA, Elm, Federal, Helmel, Mitutoyo, Olivetti, Renault, Shelton, Starrett, Zeiss, Fanamation, Hansford, Maxicheck, Moore, Numerex, Portage, SCS, Sheffield and Wenzel, just to name a few.
Many retrofits performed by LK Metrology include a full conversion to both the latest machine controller and inspection software, while utilizing the original CMM frame. Retrofits can also include a sensor change to incorporate the latest contact or non-contact probes. The outcome provides functionality like that of a new machine, making a CMM retrofit a very practical choice.
The full cost of a CMM retrofit will typically fall between 15% and 40% of the cost of a new machine of a similar size. The larger the frame, the more that is saved when choosing a complete machine retrofit.
Benefits include:
- Enhanced reliability with the latest machine controller, computer and software.
- Optional mechanical upgrades to include drives and encoders.
- Enhanced accuracy with the latest error correction and sensor technologies.
- Enhanced programming with the latest CAD I/F, GD&T, and ANSI standards.
- Enhanced reporting capabilities.
A machine retrofit is a viable option to machine replacement and certain factors must be considered before accurately determining the best direction. LK Metrology will be pleased to assist you in making this decision.
